How to use ? - 'Perpetual' motion machine

  • Step 1

    Using a marker, draw the location of the popsicle sticks on the iridescent side of the CD using the template that can be downloaded in the Blueprints/Plans section.

  • Step 2

    Use contact glue to fix the 8 wooden sticks to the CD. Press well.



  • Step 3

    Using 'special plastics' glue, fix the ball bearing on the other side of the CD exactly in the center.

     

    {#lang_bricoWikiWarnings_warning} Put the glue only on the outer edge of the ball bearing. Press for a long time (3-4 min) for it to hold well, then add more glue around the outside of he ball bearing.

     



  • Step 4

    Using a drill with an M8 bit, drill a 1 cm hole from the top of the wood bar.



  • Step 5

    Drill two holes with an M3 bit in the wooden board as shwon in the picture.



  • Step 6

    Pass two wood screws through the bottom of the base and screw the bar in place vertically.



  • Step 7

    Tint water with herbal teas or food colouring.

     

    Partially fill the test tubes with the same amount of liquid.



  • Step 8

    Attach each tube to a stick with two colson cable ties. Once tightened, cut off the excess part.

     

    {#lang_bricoWikiWarnings_warning} Do not overtighten the cable ties to avoid splitting the sticks.


  • Step 9

    Screw the Y shaped nut onto the large screw; the larger part on the screw head side.



  • Step 10

    Pass the screw through the centre of the cd on the sticks side and secure it at the rear by tightening two nuts against the ball bearing.

     

    Then pass the screw through the hole in the bar and tighten it at the back with another nut.

     

    {#lang_bricoWikiWarnings_warning} Tightening the nuts by hand is sufficient.

     

    Colour the base and the sticks with felt pens.
