Most scientists therefore believe that the melting of sea ice and icebergs will not affect the level of the oceans (unlike the melting of land ice). Although this is largely true, it turns out that there is actually an effect, even if it is small. Recent scientific publications show that what is true for fresh water is not exactly true for salt water. In fact, the volume of water displaced will actually increase by 2.6% after the ice melts.
