How to use ? - Vegetable oil stirling engine

  • Step 1

Nail the two wooden boards on the sides of the MDF block (at 1.5 cm from one end).

Then nail a rectangle piece of wood between the two mounts at 2,5cm from the top.

  • Step 2

With fast two component glue, fix an M6 nut at 7,5 cm of the opening of the test tube .

Let it harden, then screw an M6x10mm round-head bolt on the nut.

Using thermal glue, paste an M6x15 bolt close to the opening of the tube perpendicularly but in the same axis than the bolt already in place.

Avertissement Thermal glue makes it possible easily take off and move the bolt if it is not perfectly in line.

  • Step 3

Glue two small pices of wood in the centre of the rear board with at a distance between them corresponding to the width of the syringe.

In this space, stick a strip of coarse sandpaper to avoid the syringe from slipping.

  • Step 4

Cut the back of the syringe to create a "simple" tube.

Cut the water bomb balloon and pass it on the top of the syringe leaving approximately a 0.7 cm ball.

Tighten an elastic band around the ballon very close to the top of the syringe.

  • Step 5

Drill the test tube stopper with an M4 bit. Pass the rigid tube through the stopper until it reaches the other side.

  • Step 6

Attach the flexible tube to the syringe and stopper.

  • Step 7

Screw 2 small electric connectors in the center of the top of the side boards.

  • Step 8

Wrap a tube the rigid wire to form a kind of spring with a diameter slightly smaller than the test tube (2-3 loops).

Slide the test tube through the loops.

  • Step 9

Position the test tube in the center of the two connectors and cut the wire before the 2nd screw.

Pass the wire through the holes of each connector according to the drawing, and then screw the outer screws.

The test tube should be able to move freely up and down.

  • Step 10

Position the syringe on the back board using 2 large rubber bands.

  • Step 11

Build an oil lamp by punching a hole in the metal lid of a salt cellar and pass through a flat wick .

Pour the oil in the salt cellar. Fill almost to the top to ensure a good drainage.

Screw back the lid leaving outside about 1 cm of the wick.
