How to use - A coin top

  • Some tips:

To minimize friction, rotate your spinning top on a flat and hard surface (e.g. catelles, glass, etc.).

Practice spinning the spinning top. If it is launched correctly, with a very fast rotation, smooth and straight, it will emit little noise (little friction) and turn for a long time.

If despite proper handling, your spinning top produces a lot of noise and stops quickly it is because it is not well balanced. Checks that all elements are well centered and perpendicular(F) and solidary (do not move independently). To refocus, it is possible to slightly turn the tip of the pencil or push the bedbugs a little with the nail.

The longer the pencil part is, the more it's decentralization or lack of perpendicularity will affect the smooth functioning of the top.

Theoretically, the heavier the coin, the longer the spinning top should rotate, because for the same speed it must be given more energy at the start. In addition, due to its weight (mass), it has a higher gyroscopic effect. It is this effect that keeps the spinning top in the same axis and makes it resist changes in orientation.
